Monday morning we drove to Geraldton and set up for an overnight stay.  After one wrong turn (my fault lol) we found the surf shop and with some much-needed advice, got a surfboard!  Bun got an IOU from me and the kids for his birthday 2 years ago!! Now he's finally managed to call it in so a drink to celebrate was called for :))

As we intend to travel up the coast later in the year, we left Geraldton without seeing anything really.  We decided to go back along the beaches to find somewhere for the 'L' plate surfer haha.

We are now back at Pt Dennison-Dongara, there is a lovely beach just near the caravan park so we have been frequenting that.  Close enough to go down 3 times a day with breaks in between because of the heat (41-42) or because we're buggered and need a nap LOL.

There was a big kiteboarding event on over the weekend and trust me, the wind conditions were perfect for them. It was blowing a gale!

Just for Jeff Martin!  Yes he can get up!  He does say though that he's got some sore muscles ;)

We went down for a late session last night and then sat on the beach with a drink so that we could see the sunset.

Bun telling me that I was missing the best light because I was watching the birds :)

Just for Sylvana!! We both thought this would be Max!!!

Cheers

As we left Kalgoorlie, we came across these two big loads!

These photos were taken at the Museum in Kalgoorlie and posted here just for James!  Pretty big Tonka toys!!

There was a free family concert on while we were in Kalgoorlie so we sat for a couple of hours until we got too cold, even the girls 'short' shorts weren't enough to keep Bun there once the cool breeze set in :))

We drove out to Menzies and saw this servo! All along the front and end of it was covered with number plates and signs.

We visited Lake Ballard to see the 'people' sculptures in the lake.  Normally its a salt lake and you can walk around and see it all, but as usual our timing is great and it was wet LOL

So we did some walking in the mud and climbed up a little rock/island for a better view.  I had to be 'persuaded' because I really don't like mud!

We spent an afternoon near Balandje Rock just west of Bullfinch, but with the weather building up, we decided not to stay there overnight because the track out would not be good if it was wet!

We ended up at the caravan park at Mukinbudin!  It had to be the cleanest, tidiest park in the tidiest town we've been in.  Definitely recommend it!!
The next day we went to Pithara, near Dalwallinu, to meet Dot and Ray.  They are lovely people and after spending the afternoon (and evening) talking and eating, we will head back there at the end of the month.  We will be looking after the beautiful big garden, a pool (yay), horse, goat and chooks :))

Next day we left their place and went to the coast, staying a night at Cervantes and then moving on to Jurien Bay.   Jurien Bay is a lovely spot and so we stayed a couple of nights.  We've met some lovely people and one couple from GinGin have offered to let us leave the truck and van at their farm over the Anzac weekend.  So much easier than trying to track down a caravan park near the airport when it will be school holidays AND a long weekend!!

I have been doing some cooking, the apple and apricot muesli slice is going down well for snacks and I crumbed some of the calamari with a 'KFC' mixture found on the thermomix site.  I also crumbed some chicken with it. I liked it but Bun reckoned it was more like the zinger mix :)

One final walk on the beach yesterday morning before leaving Jurien Bay meant we found this lol!

We spent last night at Dongara on the coast and will head towards Geraldton today, hopefully finding a surfboard for Bun!

Cheers

When we woke up at Wudinna, this van had rolled in late overnight.  Sam is riding around Australia on a unicycle!!!  He is raising money and awareness for breast cancer in support of his sister Connie.  Mammoth effort coming across the Nullabor with the heat recently!!

We finally got to the coast at Pt Kenny and went for a walk on the first of many jettys LOL

We decided to stay at Venus Bay, it's so pretty there and very protected.  There were dolphins playing in the bay just off the jetty.  This guy stayed very still for me :)

Just so you know Steven, Bun got that feeling again while looking over the edge :)

There's a great loop road between Venus Bay and Elliston that takes you past caves and rock formations and cliffs.

Photo above is Bun thinking I'm going to do that one day, photo below is what he was looking at LOL

The beach above is Surfer's Beach.  Such a shame that Bun still doesn't have a surfboard because it was the perfect beach and surf for a beginner!

We spent some time watching the sealion colony above, some were just lying around like slugs haha but some were playing in the water.  Bun said it looked like puppies playing!

While at Venus Bay, we got chatting to Bill and Marina who were cleaning squid.  Lovely people who explained how to clean those messy little suckers!  We swapped a dozen eggs for some calamari!!

After a night there, when we were leaving it was blowing a gale so we decided to creep along the coastline to Streaky Bay.

Murphy's Haystacks, I'm actually in that photo but you'll have to zoom in :)  occasionally Bun takes a photo so you know I'm still on this trip.

We spent 2 nights at Streaky Bay because of the heat and the wind.  We did an early morning bike ride to check out some of the beaches before the heat set in.  We met a couple from Melbourne, Anthony and Cathy, who are on a surfing holiday to the West.  They were camping in a tent so we invited them over for an icy 'boost' juice to cool off.  Bun took the motorbike to the other end of the caravan park to pick them up and came back 3-up! Cathy had never been on a motorbike before so that was some introduction :)

After Streaky Bay, with it still blowing 'like a bitch', we went to Ceduna and spent most of the afternoon in the van with the air-con running.  Next morning we went for a drive around Thevenard and visited a quilt shop :) and then spent a couple of hours at the Museum.  I think that is Ceduna's answer to the Men's Shed idea.  Lots of retired guys moving stuff around and chatting, not sure how much actually gets done but they're happy.

After lunch at the servo in Penong (okay food but really poor attitude!), we got to Cactus Beach and stayed overnight.  A walk around the point led us to these cliffs.

It is set up as a National Surfing Reserve now with some basic facilities, very peaceful at the moment but it must get pretty hectic when the surf is running.

After watching the sunset and sunrise, Bun said maybe we should turn into hippies :)

As the wind was going be an easterly next day, we decided that was the time to head across the Nullabor.  We thought the road into Fowler's Bay wouldn't be too bad as half of it was bitumen.......bad call!!  The dirt section had us going about 10-15kph because of the corrugations!  However after advice from a couple on the jetty, we took a different road out that was much better :)
The rest of the day took us to the Border Village, so we stayed there for the night.  That meant we could have a roast for tea and use a few more of our vegetables up before the border crossing.  The time difference was getting to us though because the clock said 5pm but our bodies said 7.30pm!  So we were in bed early by the clock, unfortunately the morning led to more confusion LOL!  Bun woke up at 4am!! So half an hour later, he was washing the outside of the van to get rid of salt hahaha.  Breakfast was also early and even after a slow start to the day, we went through the border at 6am.  Of course, by 7.30 when we came across the first servo, he had a Redbull!  He would have had one an hour earlier if he could have :)

The photo above was taken at the Head of the Bight!  Callie, look at the teal colour!!

The camel in this shot looks like it's dancing!!!

More spectacular cliffs on the way, see how little the van looks on the left?

Just to let you know how far we were from EVERYWHERE!!

We stayed overnight at Fraser Range Station, 120kms before Norseman.  It is a van park on a working sheep station, a bit over 330,000 acres Bun said.  We met a lovely family there, they are moving from Shark Bay (near Denham) to 'somewhere on the east coast'.  It is great to meet new people all the time!

One night, when I think I had some cabin fever from being inside because of the heat, we started playing I Spy with the loser having to get tea.  I lost and look what we ate!

Even at Cactus Beach with no power, the generator and Thelma kicked into action so we could have another juice!

We are now at Kalgoorlie and are off shortly to go on a tour of the Superpit!  I've also been told that there's a GREAT craft shop in town so I'll have to see if I can get there too LOL

I emailed off resumes for a couple of jobs yesterday, one is a farm caretaking position that is just for 2-3 weeks at Dalwallinu so that would be good if it happens.  The other was at a caravan park in Bunbury but that would have meant us having to race down there over the weekend for an interview.  To be honest we are not really into rushing when we've only just got to WA :)

That's all folks!
Cheers
