Eighty Mile Beach was very popular with the grey nomads! We chatted to a lovely couple there, Hilary and Garth from Melbourne, who gave us some tips for tours in Broome. Hilary also gave me the name of the hairdressers lol.
The photos below were taken at Eighty Mile Beach. More sunsets for Dad :)
Bun did have a beer in hand haha
The caravan park that we stayed in at Broome was called the Gateway, it's about 30kms out of Broome and our van was in the extreme right of the shot. This was taken just after we took off from the airport on our full day tour.
As we were about to cross over the gulf, the sun was shining through the clouds and creating beautiful patterns on the water.
A view of the horizontal falls from the seaplane.
They refer to the sharks as their 'pets', Bun was one of the first into the water to get up close and personal, not on my list of things to do.
The amount of water that moves through the gap on each tide is amazing!
While there, we decided to 'go for broke' and take the chance to have a helicopter flight. Although it costs 'extra' (what doesn't these days?), it was seriously awesome. There are no doors on it so the wind really buffets you around but it really adds to the experience. We had flown by seaplane (below) to the houseboat setup and then had rides in both boats (below) through the falls and then along the waterways. Breakfast had been served on the houseboats as our pickup time in Broome was at 5.40am!! Somehow I had zoned out while Bun was paying for the trip and only realised the pickup time later! That was a shock! As we had to get into the Visitor Centre, we had the alarm set for 4.30!
Anyway after all that, it was still only 10.30am :)
Then we flew to One Arm Point at the top of the Peninsula and had a tour around the fish hatchery. From there it was bus to Cape Leveque for a barramundi lunch (steak for Bun of course!) and then heading back to Broome via Beagle Bay.
Considering it was only ten minutes or so in the helicopter, I was pretty happy with the photos I got.
Bun got chatting to the pilot of the helicopter and it turns out he is from Adelaide originally and has met Felicity Morrell and Kirby Manning amongst others!
That's it for that trip, it was an extremely long day as we didn't get back to the caravan park until 7pm but was well worth it.
I think we spent more in a week in Broome than in the couple of months previous to that but it's all good.
I now have about 500 photos to go through from my photography tour so I will update again once I've done that.
Cheers
Anne
